Artist Statement //

My work explores perceived experiences with the paranormal and supernatural. I am interested in how these experiences act as manifestations, or reflections, of common collective anxieties. I investigate how folklore and legends regarding the unknown or unknowable act as constructed myths in order to give shape and form to feelings of existential dread and uncertainty.

Recently I have become interested in how these ideas and processes become reinforced through anecdotal evidence provided by influential figures. The argument from authority persists as a key element in the fortification for beliefs in the supernatural and the paranormal despite its fundamental flaws. However even the most fantastical events, when relayed as first-hand experiences from individuals respected by a society, can be accepted at face value and perpetuate beliefs surrounding seemingly parallel legends.
